People Who Made a Difference in Education Many people played a part in changing education throughout the years. Some are Horace Mann, John Joseph Hughes, Booker T. Washington, Albert Shanker, E.D. Hirsh Jr., and Linda Brown Thompson. They did such things as establishing the state board of education, working for the Teachers Guild, and becoming the arch bishop of New York. Those are some people who changed history in education.
